Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy was received by Prime Minister Ulf Kristersson at Upplands Air Wing (F16) in Uppsala (eastern Sweden) on Thursday. The visit takes place in the context of a meeting on the bilateral defence cooperation between Sweden and Ukraine.

Also present are Sweden's Defence Minister Pål Jonson and Air Force Chief Jonas Wikman. On the Ukrainian side, attendees include Foreign Minister Andrij Sybiha, Rustem Umerov, head of the National Security Council and former Defence Minister, as well as Ambassador Svitlana Zalishchuk and Defence Attaché Colonel Serhii Harbarenko.

According to the Swedish government, the leaders are expected to discuss Russia's war of aggression against Ukraine and cooperation between the two countries in the field of defence. Defence Minister Pål Jonson is also participating in the meeting.

Following the meeting, Prime Minister Ulf Kristersson and President Zelenskyy are expected to hold a joint press conference at which an announcement related to the aviation domain is to be presented.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has confirmed that Ukraine and Sweden are preparing a new defence package as well as a "strong step" concerning the JAS 39 Gripen combat aircraft.

Zelenskyy wrote this on X in connection with his visit to Sweden on Thursday.

"We are preparing a large defence package for Ukraine and a strong step regarding the Gripen combat aircraft, which will definitely make our combat aviation capability more effective," Zelenskyy wrote.

According to Zelenskyy, meetings are to be held with Prime Minister Ulf Kristersson as well as representatives from the Swedish defence industry.

"Thank you, Ulf Kristersson, for the fact that relations between Ukraine and Sweden are always concrete and that our cooperation is strong," Zelenskyy added.
