Kongsberg has signed a contract worth NOK 1.1 billion with General Dynamics Land Systems Canada. The contract covers remote weapon stations of the Protector RS4 type for the Canadian Army.
"The contract confirms the customer's confidence in the Protector systems and strengthens our long-term partnership with GDLS-Canada," says Kjetil Reiten Myhra, Executive Vice President at Kongsberg and head of the Defence Systems division.
The weapon stations will be integrated onto the Canadian Army's Armoured Combat Support Vehicle (ACSV). According to a press release from Kongsberg, the order is a follow-on procurement within the ACSV programme.
Kongsberg has previously delivered Protector RS4 units to General Dynamics Land Systems Canada (GDLS-Canada) for integration on the same vehicle platform. The new contract therefore continues the established cooperation between the companies.
The RS4 is part of Kongsberg's family of remote weapon stations marketed under the name Protector. The system can be integrated on several types of military vehicles and is, according to the company, designed to provide the vehicle crew with protection, precision and improved situational awareness.
Kongsberg states that the Protector RS4 is already in use by defence customers in several countries. NDS has previously reported on Sweden and Germany as customers. The company has not disclosed how many weapon stations the new order comprises or when deliveries will take place.
