Finland's Ministry of Defence (Puolustusministeriö) and the South Korean Korea Trade-Investment Promotion Agency (KOTRA) have signed a government-to-government agreement under which Finland will procure additional 155 mm self-propelled howitzers of the K9 type. This was announced by Finland's Ministry of Defence in a press release.

"The acquisition is part of the ten-year modernisation of the Finnish Army, as set out in the government's defence report. At the same time, this is a strong expression of the close cooperation between the defence administrations of Finland and the Republic of Korea," said Finnish Defence Minister Antti Häkkänen in the press release.

The agreement was signed on 9 April and includes 112 used K9 howitzers as well as spare parts, special tools, and test equipment, at a total value of approximately 546.8 million euros.

Finland's Ministry of Defence states that the acquisition will strengthen the Army's firepower and support its ability to provide long-range artillery support to forces, with good mobility both on roads and across terrain. The ministry also notes that the acquisition will partly replace older towed artillery systems.

The equipment will undergo national modifications in Finland before entering service. Maintenance and support capability for the K9 system has already been established in Finland through previous acquisitions.

In 2017, Finland placed its first order for K9 howitzers, and the country has previously ordered a total of 96 units of the same type. In 2025, Norway ordered additional artillery pieces of the K9 Vidar variant, as NDS reported.
