The government has adopted a national plan for military mobility for the period 2024–2026, with the aim of strengthening Sweden's ability to handle large-scale military operations. The Swedish Armed Forces have been tasked with proposing concrete measures to implement the plan and must report to the government by January 31, 2025, according to a press release from the Ministry of Defense.

The national plan is designed to ensure that Sweden can receive and provide military support as well as enable the transport of allied forces through Swedish territory. The plan is also a response to demands from the EU and NATO that member countries have a military mobility plan in place by December 31, 2024.

The Swedish Armed Forces will now, in collaboration with several other authorities, develop proposals for measures to meet the goals of the plan, writes the Ministry of Defense.

– The issues of military mobility are important, and the government has been actively working on them for several years. Sweden has a key role in the defense of Northern Europe due to our military-geographical position. It is important for Sweden and our allies that we ensure the best possible conditions for military mobility, says Minister of Defense Pål Jonson (M) in the press release.
