From 3–7 December, Prime Minister Ulf Kristersson (M) together with several ministers, including Defence Minister Pål Jonson (M), will travel to Japan and South Korea. The visit aims to deepen cooperation in several sectors, including defence and security, areas where both countries are strategic partners for Sweden in the Indo-Pacific region.

According to a press release from the Government Offices, the trip aims to "further strengthen the strategic, bilateral relations with Japan and South Korea in particular within three areas: security and defence, business, energy and strategic technologies, as well as cultural industries, especially the music industry and the video game sector."

– Sweden has close cooperation with both Japan and South Korea, important partners in matters concerning defence and security, says Prime Minister Ulf Kristersson.

The delegation will discuss common security policy challenges, including support for Ukraine, as well as opportunities for technological cooperation in defence and energy. Business Sweden is organising a parallel business delegation with companies such as Ericsson, SAAB, and Vattenfall to promote Swedish investments and trade relations.

– The importance of Asia is growing, and growth is expected to remain high. Therefore, countries like South Korea and Japan are two countries with which we want to continue developing cooperation, says Jan Larsson, CEO of Business Sweden, in a press release.
