Sweden Presents New Support Package to Ukraine

Sweden has announced its 21st military support package to Ukraine, one of the largest to date, valued at approximately 12.9 billion kronor. The package is designed to meet Ukraine's urgent needs and primarily includes newly manufactured air defence equipment, long-range weapon systems, and ammunition. The announcement was made by the government during a press conference on Thursday.

– The focus is clear: newly manufactured air defence systems, long-range capabilities, and ammunition to meet Ukraine's most urgent operational needs, writes Defence Minister Pål Jonson on X.

With a value of nearly 12.9 billion kronor, Sweden's 21st support package largely focuses on air defence, long-range engagement, and ammunition to address Ukraine's urgent needs. According to the government, the support package includes air defence systems valued at 4.3 billion kronor. The system is advanced and modular, consisting of cannon and missile systems, drones, sensors, and command systems. It can protect both military and civilian infrastructure, such as ports, power stations, and residential areas.

Furthermore, the package includes ammunition, training, and supplies valued at 3 billion kronor. This includes artillery shells, mortar ammunition, and air defence ammunition. Sweden also continues to participate in bilateral and multilateral training efforts and to ensure maintenance and spare parts for previously donated materiel.

Support for long-range capabilities and innovations amounts to 5.6 billion kronor and funds projects for long-range drones, maritime unmanned vehicles, and various innovation initiatives to strengthen Ukraine's battlefield capabilities.

Additionally, funds are allocated to international funds and coalitions, including donations to the Prioritised Ukraine Requirements List (PURL). With the latest support package, Sweden's total military support to Ukraine since Russia's full-scale invasion in 2022 has amounted to approximately 103 billion kronor.
