The Swedish government plans to deploy a Patriot air defence unit to Poland from December. It will protect NATO's logistics hub there, a transshipment point for military and civilian aid to Ukraine.

— The serious security situation, with repeated violations of allied airspace and Russian attempts to influence support for Ukraine, shows the importance of protecting the logistics node in Poland, said Defence Minister Pål Jonson.

The government announced the plan on 6 October. NATO's air command will lead the unit. The announcement did not give the unit's size or how long it will be deployed.

The Patriot unit adds to an existing Swedish contribution, first announced on 30 September. Since October, Swedish Gripen fighters have supported NATO's integrated air and missile defence and the protection of the hub. The jets operate mainly from Sweden, with a smaller forward base in Poland. This is Sweden's second fighter deployment for the hub, following an initial contribution in 2025, as previously reported by NDS.

— The continuity of this mission is an expression of allied solidarity and shared responsibility for the region's security in the face of the threat from Russia, Polish Defence Minister Władysław Kosiniak-Kamysz wrote on X.
