One operation concerns the protection of the logistics hub in Poland where military and civilian support to Ukraine is gathered. Swedish fighter aircraft will be part of a NATO air defense mission to secure this area. The other mission is an enhanced Air Policing operation over Poland.
– We have long experience in maintaining and ensuring Sweden's territorial integrity with our incident preparedness. What is new is that we are now conducting the same flight missions from Poland and within the framework of NATO's enhanced airspace surveillance of allied airspace, says Jörgen Axelsson, the Air Force's operations chief, in the Swedish Armed Forces' press release.
The Swedish contribution includes approximately 110 personnel, mainly from the Norrbotten Wing F 21, but also personnel from other units. The fighter aircraft will be directed by NATO's air operations center Combined Air Operations Centre in Uedem, Germany.
