Sweden and Hungary have signed a declaration of intent for expanded cooperation in the defense sector. The signing took place on October 16 in Stockholm between Defense Minister Pål Jonson (M) and Hungary's Defense Minister Kristóf Szalay-Bobrovniczky.

– I look forward to seeing the concrete results of the working group in the future, says Defense Minister Pål Jonson (M) in a press release from the Ministry of Defense.

A joint working group will be established with representatives from the Swedish Defence Materiel Administration, Saab, and Hungary's Ministry of Defense to explore concrete cooperation opportunities.

The declaration of intent aims to strengthen cooperation, particularly around the Gripen program and other defense materiel areas. The background is the agreement between Sweden and Hungary signed on February 23, 2024 in connection with NATO negotiations.

– Today we had talks with the Swedish Defense Minister in Stockholm and we signed an agreement that we could call historic: we will work together to develop the Gripens, and in many other important bilateral issues. The Swedish-Hungarian ties, especially since Sweden's NATO accession, have been elevated to a strategic level, wrote Defense Minister Kristóf Szalay-Bobrovniczky on Facebook according to the Hungarian newspaper Magyar Nemzet.
