As part of strengthening supply chains and mobilizing industrial resources, Sweden and Ukraine have signed a declaration of intent for joint production of defense materiel. The agreement is expected to benefit both Ukraine's urgent needs and Sweden's long-term defense capability.

The declaration of intent was signed on August 23 in Kyiv by Defense Minister Pål Jonson and Ukraine's Prime Minister Denys Shmyhal. The collaboration will combine the Swedish industrial base with Ukrainian innovation and combat experience, particularly in areas such as autonomous systems, electronic warfare, and software development.

– Sweden is keen to deepen the defense industrial cooperation with Ukraine. With the declaration of intent, we aim to strengthen the Swedish and Ukrainian rearmament. By combining a Swedish industrial base, Ukrainian innovation, and Ukrainian battlefield experience, we can build a stronger joint defense industry, says Defense Minister Pål Jonson.

According to the government, the goal is to deepen the defense industrial cooperation between the countries. For Sweden, this means an opportunity to strengthen its industrial resilience and create a broader base for production.

The initiative is part of a larger pattern where Ukraine collaborates with several NATO and EU countries, including Romania, Poland, and Denmark, to build a more robust defense capability.
