The Government and the Sweden Democrats presented the budget proposal for 2025 during a press conference, with investments aimed at strengthening the military defence. Defence Minister Pål Jonson (M), Oscar Sjöstedt (SD), Mikael Oscarsson (KD), and Anna Starbrink (L) participated in the press conference.

The Government assesses that the security situation continues to deteriorate and proposes that allocations to the military defence be increased by approximately 13 billion kronor in 2025. The investments include the following:

Increased Defence Allocations
This means that Sweden's defence expenditure will amount to 2.4 percent of GDP according to NATO's calculation model. For the period 2025-2030, an additional 170 billion kronor is proposed, which will bring the military allocation to 2.6 percent of GDP by 2028.

Growth within the Armed Forces
The number of conscripts in the Armed Forces is to increase gradually in the future and is estimated to reach 8,000 by 2025. Additionally, the number of part-time and continuously employed soldiers and sailors is to reach approximately 10,000 in the same year.

Defence Innovation
The Government allocates 200 million kronor to strengthen innovation in defence materiel. The funds will be distributed to the Swedish Defence Research Agency (FOI) and other actors to promote technical development and innovation within the defence sector.

Intelligence Operations
The National Defence Radio Establishment (FRA) is allocated an additional 100 million kronor to strengthen its capabilities.
