Japan's Defence Minister Minoru Kihara met Sweden's Defence Minister Pål Jonson (M) in Stockholm on 25 July. The ministers arrived at the meeting at the Maritime Museum on a combat boat from the Swedish Armed Forces.

According to an article from the Ministry of Defence, possibilities for deepening defence cooperation between Sweden and Japan were discussed, focusing on defence innovation, technology, and the development of space and underwater capabilities.

– The security in the Euro-Atlantic and Indo-Pacific regions is becoming increasingly interconnected. Defence policy cooperation between Sweden and Indo-Pacific partner countries, such as Japan, is important to jointly address challenges, says Defence Minister Pål Jonson in the article.

On the same day, the defence ministers published an opinion piece in Dagens Nyheter about expanded defence cooperation between the countries. Areas mentioned include space capabilities, the underwater domain, and increased collaboration on training and concept development.
