Sweden is preparing a comprehensive support package for Ukraine that includes air defence systems and radar from Saab. This is according to the Ukrainian Ministry of Defence (MOU) following a meeting between the countries' defence ministers on Sunday, 1st February.

– Sweden is preparing one of its largest security packages for Ukraine, including air defence and Saab radar, writes Ukraine's Defence Minister Mykhajlo Fedorov on the platform X.

During the conversation with Sweden's Defence Minister Pål Jonson, the design of the support was discussed, which also includes investments in the Ukrainian defence industry. The package is expected to contain electronic warfare systems and drones capable of deep strikes, according to a press release from the MOU.

The countries are considering the possibility of starting a joint programme, "Brave–Sweden", via the innovation cluster Brave1, according to the MOU. The programme, through co-financing, will enable defence companies to test solutions directly at the front and accelerate joint production on Swedish soil.

The parties also discussed the air force, specifically the possibility of delivering the Gripen fighter aircraft and the Meteor air-to-air missile. These systems are described as central to countering the threat from Russian aircraft and guided glide bombs.

In addition, Sweden and Ukraine are working on further contributions to the PURL initiative. According to the MOU, the focus is on strengthening Ukrainian air defence against ballistic missiles.
