The Swedish Defence Materiel Administration (FMV) has now delivered the two new state aircraft, designated TP 106, to the Swedish Armed Forces (Försvarsmakten). The aircraft, of the type Bombardier Global 6500, will replace the older Gulfstream aircraft and strengthen the capability to transport the nation's highest civilian and military leadership.
According to a press release from FMV, the procurement was carried out through a directed acquisition with the Canadian manufacturer Bombardier. The contract value amounts to approximately 1.1 billion Swedish kronor. The aircraft were already manufactured and had previously been used in the supplier's demonstration activities before being adapted to Swedish requirements.
– The acquisition has been characterised by a high degree of trust and a solution-oriented approach between the supplier and FMV, while we have maintained a clear dialogue and very good cooperation with the Swedish Armed Forces throughout the entire project. This has been decisive in being able to deliver this capability in such a short time, says Björn Hellbom, project manager at FMV, in a press release.
The Swedish Armed Forces state that the formal handover took place on 1 June at Uppland Wing F 16. The aircraft will be operated by the 75th State Flight Squadron at Skaraborg Wing F 7, which is based at Arlanda Airport (Stockholm, Sweden).
– The 75th State Flight Squadron is a wartime unit and must have the capability to provide secure transport for the nation's leadership, globally and under elevated threat levels. With the TP 106, they are provided with highly fit-for-purpose new materiel, says Air Force Commander Jonas Wikman in the Swedish Armed Forces' press release.
NDS reported in May 2025 that the Swedish Armed Forces had ordered two Bombardier Global 6500 aircraft to replace the older TP 102 systems. Even then, the advantages of the state flight aircraft and the new airborne early warning and control aircraft S 106 GlobalEye being based on the same aircraft platform were highlighted.
According to both FMV and the Swedish Armed Forces, the shared platform creates synergies in training, maintenance, spare parts management, and staffing. This is expected to provide increased flexibility and better availability for both the state flight aircraft and the forthcoming GlobalEye aircraft.
– The delivery of the TP 106 strengthens the Swedish Armed Forces' operational capability and Sweden's freedom of action in a heightened security environment, says Carl-Fredrik Edström, head of the Aviation and Space business area at FMV, in the agency's press release.
