The Swedish Armed Forces (Försvarsmakten) will be equipped with two new aircraft of the type Bombardier Global 6500, which will be designated as TP 106 within the Swedish Air Force (Flygvapnet). The new system replaces the older Gulfstream aircraft and is intended to improve the availability and flexibility of the government flight service in the long term, according to press releases from the Swedish Armed Forces and the Swedish Defence Materiel Administration (FMV).
The aircraft have been purchased second-hand from Bombardier Aerospace through a contract worth approximately 1.1 billion SEK. The purchase also includes initial training for pilots and technicians. Deliveries are planned for November and December 2025.
– The capability for secure transport of the nation's leadership, globally and under elevated threat levels, is the task of the 75th Government Flight Squadron, which is now being equipped with new, highly suitable materiel, wrote Air Force Chief Jonas Wikman on X/Twitter:
The introduction of TP 106 means that the government flight fleet will become uniform, with operational advantages such as increased flexibility in personnel planning and simplified technical management. At the same time, the radar surveillance system S 106 (GlobalEye), which is based on the same platform, is also being introduced. This creates synergies in spare parts management, maintenance, and training, according to the authorities.
– The new aircraft represent a modernisation of the current fleet and ensure the availability of the government flight service over time. Unlike the current system, the units are identical, which simplifies handling within the Swedish Armed Forces, says Björn Hellbom, project manager for TP 106 at the Swedish Defence Materiel Administration (FMV).
