The mortar boats are part of the Amphibious Battalion 2030 project and are intended to increase the firepower, flexibility, and precision of the amphibious units. They are equipped with stabilised mortar systems that enable firing while on the move and advanced features such as Multiple Rounds Simultaneous Impact (MRSI).
– The mortar boats are an important part of modernising the amphibious units' capability and effectiveness against land-based targets, says Lennart Klingenstierna, project manager at FMV, in the press release.
FMV signed a contract with Swede Ship Marine AB for the delivery of seaborne mortar boats in May 2023. These vessels, which will reinforce the amphibious battalions in Stockholm and Gothenburg, are based on Swede Ship's experience in modernising vessels such as the Patrol Boat type 88. The delivery of the new mortar boats is planned for 2027-2028.
