Commander Magnus Lüning has been appointed Deputy National Home Guard Commander. He takes up the post on 1 September, at which point he will leave his position as Commander of the Central Military Region.
According to a post from the Swedish Home Guard (Hemvärnet) on LinkedIn, Magnus Lüning will support National Home Guard Commander Major General Mattias Ardin in the work of developing the Home Guard.
"I look forward to the challenge of developing the Home Guard as a combat force for the future, and to supporting National Home Guard Commander Major General Mattias Ardin in this," says Magnus Lüning in the post.
Lüning has served in the Swedish Armed Forces (Försvarsmakten) for more than 40 years and has experience from, among other things, the operational command at Supreme Headquarters, the Navy, and as a military attaché in the United States.
"Magnus is a wise and driven individual with broad experience. I very much look forward to our close collaboration in developing the Home Guard as a combat force together with the military regions," says National Home Guard Commander Major General Mattias Ardin.
Since 2023, Lüning has served as Commander of the Central Military Region, with responsibility for operations in the region, Total Defence cooperation, six military region groups, and eleven Home Guard battalions.
"Together with National Home Guard Commander Major General Mattias Ardin, the Home Guard gains a leadership with both depth and breadth, and a strong connection to the military regions," writes Lieutenant General Carl-Johan Edström, Chief of the Swedish Defence Staff, on LinkedIn.
Nordic Defence Sector has previously reported on Magnus Lüning in connection with his role as Commander of the Central Military Region and Commandant of Stockholm, when he received the Commandant's staff of office from H.M. the King at a ceremony at the Royal Palace.
