Prime Minister Ulf Kristersson (M) today begins a two-day summit at Harpsund where the leaders of the Nordic and Baltic countries, as well as Poland's Prime Minister Donald Tusk, are participating. The focus is on European security, transatlantic relations, and long-term support for Ukraine, according to the Government Offices.

– The summit takes place when cooperation in our region may be more important than ever. Supporting Ukraine and strengthening our ties in regional security matters is key, writes the Prime Minister on X.

– The importance of good neighbours is highlighted in difficult times, and the cooperation between like-minded countries is emphasised in the changing situation in the Baltic Sea region. The countries participating in the meeting are important partners for Finland both within the EU and NATO as well as bilaterally, says Prime Minister Petteri Orpo according to a press release from the Finnish Government Office.

Before the meeting, Kristersson held talks with France's President Emmanuel Macron and NATO's Secretary General Mark Rutte. The discussions concerned cooperation within NATO and the need to act united against threats to democratic values.

Later in the day, a joint press conference will be held with all participating heads of state and government. Tomorrow, Sweden and Poland will sign a new strategic partnership.
