The Minister of Defence in Brussels for NATO Meeting
Minister of Defence Pål Jonson is participating in NATO's defence ministers' meeting in Brussels to discuss NATO's deterrence and defence, as well as to meet the Ukraine Defence Contact Group. Sweden is participating as an invited country and is also leading the meeting of the Northern Group.
At the Defence Ministers' Meeting, led by NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg, and where Sweden participates in the role of an invited country to NATO (so-called invitee), ongoing NATO operations will also be discussed. In connection with the meeting, a meeting of the Ukraine Defence Contact Group (UDCG, often called the Ramstein format) will also take place. The format is used to coordinate military support from about 50 countries to Ukraine, writes the ministry.
After NATO's Defence Ministers' Meeting, a Defence Ministers' Meeting within the Northern Group, a defence policy forum that includes the Nordic and Baltic countries as well as the Netherlands, Poland, Germany, and the United Kingdom, will also be held. Pål Jonson will lead the meeting in the Northern Group as Sweden is the chair country during the autumn of 2023, according to the press release.
