The fuzes control when and how artillery shells detonate and are a technically advanced component that, according to FMV, has been in short supply internationally since Russia's invasion of Ukraine in 2022.
– Through our framework agreement with Junghans, we ensure increased deliveries of fuzes both now and for several years to come. With the agreement, FMV strengthens the supply security of ammunition, says Mattias Lindén, project manager at FMV.
The agreement was preceded by joint work between FMV and the German procurement authority Bundesamt für Ausrüstung, Informationstechnik und Nutzung der Bundeswehr (BAAINBw).
According to the industry magazine Europäische Sicherheit & Technik (ES&T), BAAINBw signed a ten-year framework agreement with Junghans Microtech covering up to 180,000 fuzes for 155 mm artillery ammunition, with the possibility to expand to 270,000. The initial order included 20,000 units, valued at 10.5 million euros, within a framework agreement totaling 97.5 million euros.
