The Swedish part of the evacuation operation in Sudan is now over, although other nations continue to maintain the air bridge out of the country. In total, the Swedish Armed Forces conducted seven flights and approximately 100 Swedes have been evacuated over the days.

Last night, the Swedish part of the military evacuation operation in Sudan concluded, announced Prime Minister Ulf Kristersson at a press conference from the Government Offices on 27 April. Other countries will maintain the air bridge, and Swedes can still be included. The Swedish planes have evacuated just over 160 people, of whom 60 are Swedes, the Prime Minister continues.

Defence Minister Pål Jonson extends a "particularly warm thanks to the personnel, soldiers, and officers of the Swedish Armed Forces who carried out the operation," on his Twitter, and announces that the Swedish Armed Forces have evacuated a total of 160 people during seven flights.

In an article on the Ministry for Foreign Affairs' website, Foreign Minister Tobias Billström states that "even though the Swedish Armed Forces' mission has concluded, the Ministry for Foreign Affairs continues its work to consularly assist the Swedes who remain in Sudan. This is done in various ways and the work is conducted by the ministry and the embassy, which is temporarily located in Stockholm [...]. Other countries are still maintaining the air bridge out of Khartoum and there are flights out of the country. However, how long this will last and whether new opportunities to leave Sudan will be established is difficult to answer. Our consular unit continuously informs Swedes on site about the opportunities available."

– I am very proud of all those who have contributed to this operation in various ways and have worked decisively to put people in safety, says Carl-Johan Edström, head of operations management in an interview on the Swedish Armed Forces' website.

– It has been a composite unit with a number of different resources and capabilities that have contributed to freedom of action and strength throughout the operation, says Mattias Ottis, deputy unit commander at Skaraborg Air Wing F 7 who has been the force commander on site, in the same article.
