Sweden was represented by Defense Minister Pål Jonson, who emphasized the need for long-term and concrete efforts to meet the EU's goals.
– Long-term and concrete efforts are central when it comes to the EU's military support to Ukraine. Sweden is working intensively to contribute to the EU's ambitious goals, and we have recently initiated joint procurement of artillery ammunition worth approximately 50 million euros together with Norway and Denmark. It is important to continue strengthening the capacity of the European defense industry, says Defense Minister Pål Jonson in the Ministry of Defense's press release.
In October, Sweden, Denmark, Finland, and Norway entered into an agreement on joint procurement of ammunition to support Ukraine. Sweden, Denmark, and Norway placed an initial joint order for artillery ammunition worth 604 million kronor, of which the first call-off covered a value of 300 million, which Försvarssektorn Nyheter previously wrote about.
The EU's defense ministers also had an informal so-called 'working breakfast' with NATO's Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg and discussed resilience in critical infrastructure as well as the EU's and NATO's ability to respond to these new threats, in light of events in the Baltic Sea region.
Additionally, a meeting was held within the framework of the European Defense Agency's (EDA) board. During the meeting, the ministers adopted a joint statement on strengthening the defense industry's access to capital, which you can read more about here.
