Turkey's President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan has signed Sweden's NATO application, report several media outlets. On January 23, the Turkish parliament approved Sweden's NATO application, giving the president two weeks to sign and thereby ratify the application.

Defense Minister Pål Jonson called the announcement on X/Twitter very gratifying and noted that the Turkish decision-making process is now complete. He concludes the post by emphasizing that only Hungary's ratification remains before Sweden becomes a full member of NATO.

The American Ambassador to Turkey, Jeff Flake said earlier today that once the ratification is formally submitted to Washington DC, he expects the U.S. Congress to approve Turkish F-16 purchases shortly.

Prime Minister Ulf Kristersson (M) writes on X/Twitter that the government welcomes Turkey's ratification of Sweden's NATO application and calls the announcement a crucial milestone on the path to full NATO membership.
