Denmark and Ukraine have signed an agreement on deepened cooperation in security, defence, technology and innovation. According to the Danish Ministry of Defence, the agreement is intended to strengthen cooperation between the two countries' armed forces and defence industries, and to pave the way for joint development and production of defence materiel.
According to a press release from the Danish Ministry of Defence, the agreement opens the door for the Ukrainian defence industry to deliver cost-effective and high-technology capabilities to Denmark. The parties will also work to remove the obstacles that currently make it difficult for the Danish armed forces to procure Ukrainian technology and materiel.
"The agreement opens the possibility for the Ukrainian defence industry to begin delivering cost-effective and high-technology capabilities to Denmark. At the same time, the agreement allows Ukraine to cooperate with Danish and European companies. This strengthens combat capability in both Denmark and Ukraine," said Danish Defence Minister Jeppe Bruus in the press release.
According to the Danish Ministry of Defence, the agreement also lays the foundation for deepened defence-industrial and technological cooperation, including through joint development and production between Danish and Ukrainian companies. Particular focus is placed on drones, air and missile defence, artificial intelligence, and electronic warfare. The agreement is also intended to facilitate the establishment of Ukrainian defence companies in Denmark within the framework of the Build with Ukraine initiative.
"Ukraine has accumulated experience during the war that no country would wish to acquire, but which all of Europe must learn from. With this agreement, we take yet another important step and strengthen the long-term defence and security cooperation," said Danish Foreign Minister Lars Løkke Rasmussen in the press release.
Following the signing, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy wrote on X that the countries had also signed a Drone Deal agreement. According to Zelenskyy, this is the ninth agreement of its kind and is intended to create greater opportunities for joint defence production, exchange of experience, and transparency regarding arms exports.
Zelenskyy also wrote that he and Danish Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen discussed strengthened air defence, deliveries of Patriot missiles, and a joint European effort to develop capabilities against ballistic missiles.
