Two Danish Home Guard squadrons opened Flyvestation Tirstrup on Djursland to the public on 19 September. Visitors could try life as a volunteer soldier for a day.

— It’s a better way to recruit than standing at a flea market somewhere, says Captain Henrik Baunsgaard, commander of Squadron 274.

Home Guard Squadrons 274 and 275 staffed the event with around 35 volunteers, according to the Home Guard. Visitors moved between seven stands. These included firing blank ammunition with the new M/25 rifle, urban combat and assault drills, drone flying and dog handling. Visitors could also learn about volunteering.

The M/25 is the Colt Canada C8, part of a wider equipment package for the Home Guard, as previously reported by NDS.

It was the fourth time Squadron 274 has held the event. The concept originated with the Naval Home Guard in Fredericia.

Squadron 274 focuses on security force (SECFOR) tasks. Squadron 275 works on guarding and drone operations. The two squadrons plan to share their experience with other units.
