The Swedish Fortifications Agency has started construction at Rosenholm in Karlskrona, where Karlskrona garrison is being re-established. The first handovers to the Swedish Armed Forces are planned for the end of 2029, the agency said on 2 October.
The agency took over about 230,000 square metres of land in early September. In total, about 700,000 square metres (70 hectares) will be developed over several years. The planned facilities include a vehicle servicing hall, a ground equipment workshop and supporting infrastructure.
According to the agency, the project is part of growth that strengthens Sweden's defence capability. Karlskrona garrison dates back to the 17th century and is one of Sweden's largest.
Work is also under way at the naval harbour. Earlier this year, the agency handed over a new submarine pier that can take larger submarines, as previously reported by NDS.
Polish submarine crews have now started training in Sweden, the Swedish Navy said. The training follows Poland's purchase of Swedish submarines and will run until early 2028. The Swedish Armed Forces previously said that this training will take place in Karlskrona.
