The General Defence Association, AFF, has published a book titled A New Generation's Voices on the Defence of Democracy, as part of Sweden's celebration of 500 years of independence. The anthology is written by ten authors working within the defence sector and foreign policy think tanks. On 28 September, the book was launched during a seminar where, among others, Defence Minister Pål Jonson (Moderate Party) participated.

AFF states that the authors discuss security challenges such as geopolitics, climate transition, and disinformation, exploring their consequences and significance for Sweden, the EU, and the international world order.

Anton Kindlund is an advisor to the head of the management and economic staff, Mikael Frisell, at the Swedish Defence Materiel Administration (FMV), and has written the chapter Focus on the Civil Merit Value!

- It is really exciting that the General Defence Association allows younger experts in the defence sector to express themselves in their respective fields in this way. I have learned a lot from my co-authors by reading the book, says Anton Kindlund, to Defence Sector News.

During the launch seminar, Anna Wieslander, Secretary General of AFF, and Defence Minister Pål Jonson gave opening speeches. The Defence Minister stated in his speech that he appreciates the breadth of analysis in the book and that it is inspiring that each generation becomes smarter and more capable.

The event then continued with two panel discussions featuring six of the authors. The first panel had the theme "Are We Ready for the Return of Geopolitics?" and was moderated by Gabriella La Torre Rapp. The second panel addressed the theme "Can Democracy Survive?" and was moderated by Ebba Jeppsson.

- It became clear that we had different backgrounds and knowledge from the defence sector when we met. This, in my opinion, contributed to particularly interesting conversations, and not least new contacts. I also liked AFF's approach when they chose to let the panel discussions focus on topics other than what we had actually written about, says Anton Kindlund.

The anthology has also been published as a PDF and can be read here.
