Danish radar manufacturer Weibel Scientific has secured an €84 million contract with Polish defence company PIT-RADWAR for its XENTA-M5 radar system. The radars will form part of Poland’s SAN counter-drone programme, and the agreement is the largest order in Weibel’s history.
According to a press release from Weibel, SAN is being developed as an integrated counter-unmanned aircraft system (Counter-UAS) capability within Poland’s national air defence. The programme combines radar and other sensors with command-and-control systems and effectors to detect and counter aerial threats.
Weibel’s XENTA-M5 will contribute to the programme’s surveillance capability by detecting, tracking and classifying airborne targets, including small, low-flying drones. The radar data will be used by the wider command-and-control system to support threat assessment and response.
"This contract raises the bar for what we must deliver as a company and the responsibility we take on as Europe strengthens its defense capability", says Peter Røpke, CEO of Weibel Scientific, in the press release.
PIT-RADWAR specialises in radar technology, command-and-control and air-defence systems. Weibel has not disclosed the number of radar systems covered by the contract or a delivery schedule.
