May 29 marks Veterans Day. On this day, official Sweden thanks and honors the country's veterans. Veterans Day, which has been a public flag day since 2018, is a day of national significance to gather and honor the men and women who, on the mandate of the parliament/government, have been sent out by Swedish authorities and served in conflict and war-affected areas abroad, with the aim of promoting peace and security.
H.M. King Carl XVI Gustaf, the Speaker, the Prime Minister, the Minister of Defense, and H.R.H. Prince Carl Philip all participate in the celebration of Veterans Day at Gärdet.
Why is this important? We believe it is about respect towards the veterans and their families. The service and efforts for peace and security deserve to be recognized and highlighted. We also believe it is about public education and enlightenment. By highlighting the veterans, SVT can increase awareness and understanding of Sweden's engagement in international issues and international peace and security.
We urge SVT to acknowledge the veterans' efforts, for example, by broadcasting the national ceremony on Veterans Day on May 29 live. The public's interest in Sweden's security policy situation is greater than it has been for a long time, and broadcasting from the veterans' celebration can be part of satisfying this interest.
