The Autumn 2025 Naval Exercise has commenced in the Stockholm archipelago and adjacent sea areas. During the exercise, Swedish naval units collaborate with other branches of the armed forces, agencies, and foreign units to enhance the capability for joint underwater and surface combat operations.
– The Autumn 2025 Naval Exercise is a major annual exercise aimed at developing our capability for joint underwater and surface combat operations, to ensure control over and free movement in the Baltic Sea region, says Commander Fabian Tamm, acting head of the Fourth Naval Warfare Flotilla and exercise leader, in a press release from the Swedish Armed Forces (Försvarsmakten).
The exercise includes elements such as anti-submarine warfare, air defence, electronic warfare, and naval mine clearance. According to the Swedish Armed Forces, it involves maintaining open ports and shipping lanes during events affecting maritime transport in peace, crisis, or war.
Approximately 850 personnel are participating in the exercise, which runs from 8–15 October. Among the participating units are around 20 ships as well as naval and air force units. Units from Finland and the United Kingdom are also participating.
– The task of controlling the Baltic Sea region requires close cooperation with our allies. Therefore, warships and military units from Finland and the United Kingdom are participating in the Autumn 2025 Naval Exercise, says Fabian Tamm.
