Oscar Stenström was the State Secretary responsible for security policy under Prime Minister Magdalena Andersson (S) when Sweden applied for NATO membership. He was appointed as Sweden's NATO negotiator in discussions with Turkey and was then entrusted by Prime Minister Ulf Kristersson (M) to bring the negotiations to a conclusion.
