Three new barracks accommodating a total of 576 soldiers are to be constructed at Terningmoen garrison in Elverum (eastern Norway). The project forms part of the Norwegian long-term defence plan Forsvarsløftet (the Defence Boost) and is intended to support the expansion of the Army.
According to a press release from Forsvarsbygg (the Norwegian Defence Estates Agency), the three buildings will contain six-person rooms, shared social areas with kitchens, and storage space for personal equipment. In addition, each building will include a single-bed room for inspecting officers, bringing the total number of beds to 579.
"These barrack buildings will ensure good, functional, and comfortable living conditions for our soldiers and those who stand guard for Norway. The Armed Forces are to be strengthened in the coming years, and this will be an important capability. Accommodation and other personnel infrastructure is a key area of investment in the long-term plan, as a soldier needs a good place to live and rest," says Anders Nybu Hansen, project manager at Forsvarsbygg, in the press release.
The buildings will be constructed in the so-called Østerdal style, featuring external pine cladding, and will be equipped with modern energy and environmental management systems as well as solar panels on the roofs. The same building type has previously been constructed at Porsangmoen garrison for the Finnmark Brigade (Finnmarksbrigaden).
Forsvarsbygg states that Syljuåsen AS is the main contractor. The contract is valued at approximately 199 million Norwegian kroner, excluding VAT, and the buildings are scheduled for completion in December 2027.
