Although the agency is sparing with information, the Swedish National Audit Office emphasised that they have never before conducted a comprehensive review of the operations. Due to a deteriorating global situation and issues with crime and public disturbances within Sweden, the Swedish Security Service (Säpo) has assumed an even more important role in recent years. No authority other than the Swedish National Audit Office has the mandate to review the entire operations of the Swedish Security Service, the agency states in a press release from 24 April.
