The Swedish Fortifications Agency is tasked with initiating the establishment of four new garrisons
The government has tasked the Swedish Fortifications Agency with establishing four new garrisons in Sweden. The planning is expected to take two to three years, with completion around 2030.
In December, the Parliament decided that the regiments should be re-established and they have already been instituted; however, the garrisons have not yet begun construction. The investment decided by the government today includes, among other things, the acquisition of land and planning for buildings and other facilities needed for operations. The design work will continue over a period of two to three years, and the garrisons are expected to be completed and operational around the year 2030, according to a press release from the Government Offices.
- It is gratifying and important for our progress that we can now proceed with the planning for the establishment of new regiment areas in Östersund, Sollefteå, Falun, and Kristinehamn. With this, we, together with the Swedish Armed Forces, take another step towards realising the Defence Decision 2020 and thereby contribute to increased defence capability for Sweden, says the Director General of the Swedish Fortifications Agency, Maria Bredberg Pettersson, in a comment to Defence Sector News.
