The exercise takes place at several locations in the Central Military Region, focusing on central Stockholm. During the exercise, the Home Guard and the Life Guards Battalion are trained to protect and monitor important buildings, such as government quarters, the Swedish Armed Forces' command sites, as well as airports and harbors.
– The inner city of Stockholm is a complex environment to operate in, and therefore it is important that we practice together to strengthen the total defense's ability to protect it during crises or, in the most extreme case, war, says Lieutenant Colonel Niclas Eriksson, exercise leader and deputy commander of the Central Military Region, in the press release.
During the exercise, there are also activities together with civilian actors within the total defense, focusing on cooperation and joint efforts.
– Stockholm, as a coastal capital, has a strategic position in the Baltic Sea area, which has become even more relevant as we are NATO allies. Together with the rest of the total defense, the exercise aims to strengthen our joint defense capability with a focus on Stockholm, which also contributes to a stronger alliance, says Niclas Eriksson.
On February 14 and 15, the exercise is expected to be most visible to the public, especially in the government quarters, at Gärdet, Djurgården, as well as in Kista, Bromma, and Kungsängen. Firing with blank ammunition may occur within restricted areas, including Kista, Frihamnen, and Huddinge.
