The government is investing 30 million kronor in Campus Total Defense, an initiative started between the Swedish Defense University, Luleå University of Technology, and Örebro University. The purpose of the investment is to bring together the country's educational institutions to ensure Sweden's long-term competence supply within total defense and strengthen cooperation between academia, authorities, industry, and civil society, writes the Swedish Defense University in a press release.

Campus Total Defense is a national initiative aimed at developing education and research focused on total defense, both in the civilian and military sectors. The government is now allocating 10 million kronor annually during the period 2025-2027, in addition to the support of 6 million kronor already contributed by the KK Foundation.

– There is an enormous power and competence within the university and college sector. By collaborating and channeling that power for the needs of total defense, we become a very important player in supplying competence and developing knowledge for both military and civilian defense, says Robert Egnell, rector at the Swedish Defense University in the press release.

The project has already attracted great interest, and 32 of Sweden's universities and colleges have registered their participation. The long-term goal is for all educational institutions in Sweden to participate in the project.

– The 70,000 employees and 350,000 students at the educational institutions together constitute a crucial resource in the development of total defense. Research and education across the country, in close collaboration with civilian organizations and the Armed Forces, build resilience and endurance in times of crisis and war, says Johan Schnürer, rector at Örebro University and chairman of the steering group for Campus Total Defense.
