The Swedish government is allocating up to nine million kronor to establish a veteran estate facility where Swedish veterans and their families will be offered rest, recreation and recovery during and after international operations.

According to a press release from the Ministry of Defence, the initiative follows the veteran inquiry that the government commissioned in November 2024. The inquiry concluded that there is a need for a physical recovery centre for veterans.

"A strong defence is also about taking responsibility for those who have served Sweden. Veterans have made significant contributions to our country. It is therefore pleasing that we are now taking an important step to give veterans and their families a place for community, rest and recovery," says Defence Minister Pål Jonson in the press release.

The government intends to allow existing veteran, comrade and family organisations to operate the facility at an existing conference or course estate. The state grant may be used for costs including meals, accommodation, travel, premises, maintenance and salary costs equivalent to up to four full-time positions.

The decision is implemented through an amendment to the Swedish Armed Forces (Försvarsmakten) appropriation directions.
