Swedish Navy Establishes Experimental Office
The Swedish Navy is establishing the experimental office MaX at the Naval Warfare School in Karlskrona to more rapidly test and develop military capabilities in line with the deteriorating security situation. The office will serve as a national resource for the entire navy and collaborate with both combat units, academia and industry.
The initiative is called MaX, the Naval Experimental Office, and is intended to enable faster development, testing, and verification of solutions based on the needs of combat units.
The background is the changed security situation, which places greater demands on the Swedish Armed Forces' ability to rapidly adapt and develop its operations, according to the press release.
– We see a clear need to increase the pace at which we develop our capabilities. It is about being able to test ideas more quickly, trial solutions, and put them into practice, says Erik Öhrn, Commandant of the Naval Warfare School.
The Experimental Office is now being established in stages in Karlskrona (southern Sweden, home of the Swedish Navy's main base) and will during its first year focus on developing working methods, conducting experiments, and creating a long-term structure for continued development.
MaX is intended to serve as a national resource for the entire navy and is being carried out in close cooperation with the navy's combat units. Collaboration with academia and industry is also described as an important part of the work. Among others, the Marine Technology Center (MTC) is mentioned as a supporting partner to the Naval Warfare School.
