Swedish personnel are participating in the multinational exercise Arctic Light 2025, which begins on September 9 in Greenland. A total of approximately 550 soldiers from Denmark, Sweden, Norway, France, and Germany are participating in the exercise, which aims to strengthen NATO countries' collective ability to manage destabilizing threats in the Arctic and North Atlantic.

The exercise is conducted under the leadership of the Danish Joint Arctic Command, in close cooperation with the Greenlandic government. Sweden participates, among other things, through contributions from the Home Guard, alongside equivalent contributions from Norway.

– Through Arctic Light, we strengthen Greenland's overall preparedness and exercise the Armed Forces' ability to handle a wide range of threats in cooperation with Greenlandic authorities and international partners, says Major General Søren Andersen, head of Joint Arctic Command, in a press release from the Danish Armed Forces.

Participating units are practicing, among other things, boarding ships, protecting critical infrastructure, and using ground-based drones in Arctic terrain. The efforts also include support to the civilian community within the framework of the Danish Arctic Response Force, with training in areas such as rescue services and environmental protection. Simultaneously with Arctic Light taking place in Greenland, the staff training exercise Opportune Jaguar is being held in Denmark. There, the Danish headquarters are practicing identifying and managing threats in the Arctic and leading operational efforts remotely.
