The Swedish government has proposed continued military contributions to NATO’s collective deterrence and defence in 2027, including ground forces in Finland and Latvia, naval and air units, and an extension of Sweden’s Patriot air defence deployment in Poland.

According to a press release from the Swedish government, the proposal has been submitted to the Riksdag for approval.

Sweden plans to contribute ground forces to NATO’s Forward Land Forces in Finland, where Sweden serves as a framework nation, and in Latvia. Naval units will also be made available to NATO, alongside air force units and ground-based air defence capabilities for the Alliance’s Integrated Air and Missile Defence.

The government also proposes extending Sweden’s planned Patriot deployment in Poland. The system is scheduled to begin supporting NATO air defence operations there in December 2026, with the proposed extension covering the first half of 2027, subject to parliamentary approval.

In addition, Sweden would make ground forces, special forces, naval and air units, and ground-based air defence capabilities available for other NATO operations and activities during the year.

The scope and timing of Sweden’s contributions will be determined in accordance with NATO’s operational planning.
