Brigadier General Jonny Lindfors will assume the role of Army Chief on 1 July, succeeding Major General Karl Engelbrektson. On 10 May, the King granted an audience to the generals, where he was informed about ongoing activities and developments within the army and the support to Ukraine, according to a press release from the Royal Court. According to Försvarets Forum, Lindfors will be promoted to Major General in conjunction with the promotion.
Major General (Maj Gen) Karl Engelbrektson took office as Army Chief in June 2016, succeeding Maj Gen Anders Brännström. Karl Engelbrektson has led the army through times of change and will hand over command from 1 July 2023.
Brigadier General (Brig Gen) Jonny Lindfors has been the Chief of Unit Production at the Headquarters' Production Management since March 2021. According to an unrelated article at the Royal Swedish Academy of War Sciences (KKrVA), he was previously the Regimental Commander at Norrbotten Regiment, I 19, in Boden. He has completed two international missions; one in Kosovo and one in Afghanistan. According to an interview in Officerstidningen, Brigadier General Lindfors grew up in Kiruna. In addition to the Swedish Defence University’s (FHS) advanced staff training, he has also been educated at the US Army War College and the Danish Defence Chief's Security Policy Course.
