The Swedish government has decided to reintroduce border controls at Sweden's internal border for six months, from 12 November 2026 to 11 May 2027. The decision is based on the assessment that there is a serious threat to public order and internal security.

The government refers to the security situation resulting from Russia's full-scale invasion of Ukraine, which has given rise to hybrid threats and hostile actors moving within the Schengen area. The decision is made in accordance with the European Union's (EU) joint legislation. France, Germany, Norway and Denmark have also introduced corresponding internal border controls. The Swedish Police Authority continues to determine where and how the controls are carried out.
