– Sweden has been a driving force in establishing a new sanctions regime due to Russia's destabilizing activities. It is a concrete step the EU is now taking to address Russian hybrid activities. This means that a sanctions regime is being established targeting those responsible for, supporting, or benefiting from Russia's hybrid activities in the EU and globally, says Foreign Minister Maria Malmer Stenergard (M).
The new sanctions regime targets individuals or organizations responsible for or supporting Russian actions that undermine the EU's security and the sovereignty of member states. The sanctions include asset freezes, travel bans, and other measures. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs further states that the EU's efforts are part of a broader work to counter hybrid threats such as sabotage, disinformation, and harmful cyber activities.
