The Swedish government has instructed the Swedish Coast Guard (Kustbevakningen) to donate ten boats to Ukraine's state emergency service. The Swedish Civil Defence and Resilience Agency (MSB) will be responsible for transport to Ukraine.
The donation involves work boats and high-speed boats which, according to a press release from the government, will be transferred in their current condition. Before handover, they will be stripped of identifying marks and any agency-specific equipment will be removed.
The recipient is Ukraine's State Emergency Service (SESU). The boats will be used for waterborne emergency response, including mine clearance in riverbeds.
"Sweden is supporting Ukraine on several fronts and is now further strengthening Ukraine's maritime capability. Towing, mine clearance and transport capacity are all important capabilities that can now be further enhanced," says Carl-Oskar Bohlin, Minister for Civil Defence.
As NDS previously reported, the government has also decided to allocate a further sum of just over SEK 270 million to several funds and initiatives supporting Ukraine's defence.
