Sweden has made its first delivery under NATO's Renovator project: digital rehabilitation training for Ukrainian healthcare staff. The course covers theory ahead of practical instruction on site in Ukraine, Sweden's civil defence agency MCF said on 30 September.
NATO approved Sweden's project plan in June 2026. The plan has four parts: renovating the premises and outdoor areas, modernising equipment, medical skills development, and bringing lessons back to Sweden.
— Renovator is an extensive and complex project. Many of us are handling several sub-projects together with a country that is constantly under new attacks, says Ronak Bozorgi Nord, programme director for Renovator Sweden.
The centre treats only soldiers wounded in the war. The aim is to return them to service.
— Sweden has good experience of working with multi-trauma patients. So this is where we can really contribute, says Niklas, one of the Swedish instructors.
Renovation of the site begins this autumn. Equipment will then be procured and installed, and the project ends in 2027.
Renovator started in 2023. Five lead nations each run their own site: the UK, Norway, Lithuania, Sweden and Latvia. Sweden joined in 2025, when the government gave the task to MSB (now MCF). The Swedish Armed Forces, FMV, the Fortifications Agency and the National Board of Health and Welfare also take part. Norway has already donated X-ray equipment and training under the programme, as previously reported by NDS.
