The initiative is part of the German-led project Immediate Action on Air Defence (IAAD), which coordinates donations of air defense systems to Ukraine and financial support to donating nations. Sweden joined the project in the fall, and the contribution is intended to enable Romania's reacquisition of "projectiles, sensors, and other equipment" related to the Patriot system, according to the press release.
The government has decided to transfer 300 million kronor in support to strengthen Ukraine's air defense. The funds are directed to Romania to cover the costs of replacing the Patriot system that the country donated to Ukraine in 2024, according to a press release from the Ministry of Defense.
