The government has instructed the Swedish Armed Forces to disburse a further just over 270 million kronor to several funds and initiatives in support of Ukraine.
Of this amount, 14 million dollars, corresponding to approximately 133 million kronor, will go to the Prioritised Ukraine Requirements List (PURL), according to a press release from the government.
PURL is a US initiative administered by NATO (North Atlantic Treaty Organization). Through the initiative, the United States makes prioritised American defence materiel available to Ukraine through support packages funded by allied and partner countries. The packages include, among other things, advanced air defence systems and ammunition.
"Sweden's support is long-term, extensive and based on Ukraine's needs. By continuing to strengthen the PURL initiative, Ukraine can quickly gain access to highly prioritised American materiel. This concerns, for example, air defence and ammunition that will enable Ukraine to continue defending itself against Russia's ongoing attacks," says Defence Minister Pål Jonson.
This is the fifth time Sweden has contributed within the framework of PURL. Following the new contribution, Sweden's total support to the initiative amounts to 552 million dollars. The government's press release does not specify how the remainder of the just over 270 million kronor will be allocated among the other funds and initiatives.
