Sweden becomes the first customer for Saab's new Combat Boat 90 CX, which is already in production. The new combat boat can be used both manned and unmanned and has been developed for reconnaissance, anti-ship warfare and air defence, among other tasks.
According to a press release from Saab, the Combat Boat 90 CX is larger than previous versions, with higher load capacity and updated systems. The boat is adapted for Saab's autonomous control system, Autonomous Ocean Core.
The new model is offered in three configurations: ISR (Intelligence, Surveillance and Reconnaissance) with the Giraffe 1X radar, beyond-the-horizon anti-ship warfare, and short-range air defence with an anti-aircraft gun for engaging targets such as drones.
Saab states that the Combat Boat 90 CX is being manufactured with Sweden as the first customer. The press release does not specify the number of boats ordered, contract value or delivery schedule.
The new model will be offered alongside the smaller Combat Boat 90 NG. In February 2026, NDS reported that the Swedish Defence Materiel Administration (FMV) had ordered SeaSnake 30 anti-aircraft guns and radar systems from Rheinmetall and Hensoldt for the amphibious battalions' combat boats. The contract is worth approximately SEK 670 million, with deliveries scheduled to begin in 2028.
