Sweden and the United States have launched the exercise Archipelago Endeavour 2026, focusing on medical care and the handling of chemical, biological, radiological and nuclear threats (CBRN). The exercise is being conducted in the Stockholm archipelago and Umeå (northern Sweden) until 10 September.
This is the eighth time that the United States Marine Corps has trained together with the Stockholm Amphibious Regiment as part of Archipelago Endeavour. This year's exercise runs from 24 August to 10 September at military bases and training areas in the Stockholm archipelago, as well as at the Swedish Total Defence CBRN Centre in Umeå (northern Sweden).
"This year we are training more on specific capabilities than in previous years. The purpose of the exercise is to achieve knowledge exchange and the sharing of experience within chemical, biological, radiological and nuclear threats (CBRN) and medical care," says Warrant Officer Niklas Wistedt, exercise director for Archipelago Endeavour 2026, in a press release from the Swedish Armed Forces.
The exercise is conducted as part of the defence cooperation between Sweden and the United States and the Defence Cooperation Agreement (DCA). The aim is, among other things, to develop the ability to operate jointly in an archipelago environment and to strengthen interoperability between the participating units.
