Defense Minister Pål Jonson (M) is today receiving his Peruvian counterpart Walter Astudillo at Karlberg Palace in Stockholm. Foreign Minister Maria Malmer Stenergard (M) and Peru's Foreign Minister Elmer Schialer are also participating in the meeting, according to the government in a press release.

The visit is a follow-up to Defense Minister Jonson's trip to South America in July, where he held bilateral talks in Lima and participated in the air show F-AIR Colombia, where Sweden participated as an honored guest. During the show, two Gripen aircraft were displayed in collaboration with the Brazilian Air Force, and meetings were held with Latin American defense delegations, including Peru.

In connection with the meeting in Lima, possibilities for defense industrial cooperation were discussed, including areas such as combat aircraft, cyber defense, innovation, and drone technology.

"Our new defense industrial strategy emphasizes the importance of partnerships – even with countries in South America," wrote Pål Jonson in a post on X, where he also mentioned that technological development creates new collaboration opportunities for countries with similar ambitions.
